Ebooks have now become part of our daily lives. Whereas people used to think about books being in a physical form, they have now accepted the fact that information comes in all shapes and sizes – hardcover, paperback, and even electronically as an eBook. There has never been a better opportunity to become a published author in a very short time.
When Amazon introduced the Kindle back in 2007, many people did not think it would catch on. This is a device that is used exclusively for reading electronic books and magazines. At that time there were very few eBooks available in the marketplace that were formatted to be read on the Kindle, so the choices were very limited for the end user. All of that is rapidly changing, as more and more people write and submit their information to be published in exactly this format.
There will always be people who prefer to have a physical copy of what they are reading. What this is about is having the choice about how you consume your information. At different times in our lives we have read magazines and books right from our computer. Even though I prefer a paperback book, I still own many hardcover books. It is all up to us.
If you are an author you will want to consider retaining your electronic rights to whatever you publish. You will find that you make and keep much more of the profit when you sell your books in eBook format from a website, as well as when you make your writing available for Amazon Kindle.
